Adelaide ,South Australia . The relatively wealthy area lies within theCity of Unley . The suburb is the home of theSturt Football Club , anSANFL team. Unley neighbours Fullarton, Hyde Park, Keswick, Malvern, Parkside, Wayville.The boundaries of Unley are Greenhill Road (north), Unley Road, Maud Street and Windsor Street (east), Cremorne Street and Opey Avenue (south) and King William Road (west).
Prior to British settlement, Unley was home to the indigenous peoples of the
Kaurna tribe. Settlement by migrants commenced in the mid-1800s with arrivals predominantly fromUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , and to a small extent German speaking lands. At this time a small number of other ethnic groups also appeared. The land was cleared of native forest to farm sheep and cattle and to plant vineyards and orchards. There were also farms. Since then, it has developed into a commercial hub, just south of Adelaide's city centre. The suburb also has a significant Greek Australian population.The total population of the suburb (est 2001, Australian Bureau of Statistics) was 3,427. There were 1577 dwellings with only about half being owned outright. In 2001, 13.1% stated that they earned more than $2000 per week, whilst 12.0% stated that they earned $1500-$1999 per week.
It seems from statistics (2001) that 34.2% were sole-person dwellers and 37.9% were couples with no children.
