Harvey Goldsmith CBE (b.
4 March ,1946 inEdgware ,London ,England [http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2007/04/23/harvey_goldsmith_listed_londoner_feature.shtml] ) was the co–organiser, together withBob Geldof andMidge Ure , of TheLive 8 concert in Hyde Park,London that took place on2 July ,2005 .Harvey Goldsmith is probably the
United Kingdom 's best known rock promoter and has been instrumental in developing the live touring industry inEurope . From acts as diverse asPavarotti , Queen, Lord of the Dance,The Who ,Van Morrison , Madonna,Eric Clapton ,Pink Floyd , and theEarls Court spectacular presentations ofCarmen andAida , Harvey has promoted some of the most prominent performers and shows in live music.He started out as a pharmacy student in
Brighton , where he founded Club 66, a successful weekly student live music function, and organised larger events at the Brighton Metropole.Harvey soon realised that live music was his true calling. His career has spanned four decades and highlights include promoting London's
Live Aid concert atWembley in 1985 and more recently Live 8 in London's Hyde Park. Harvey has also presented numerous charity concerts and television specials for thePrince's Trust and more recently his Teenage Cancer shows at theRoyal Albert Hall , presented withRoger Daltrey , have become an annual fixture in the London social calendar.In 1996 Harvey Goldsmith was honoured with a CBE in the Queen's birthday Honours List for his work in the entertainments industry.
Goldsmith is currently in the
Channel 4 show "Get Your Act Together with Harvey Goldsmith " in which ailing performers are offered help to hit the big time again.In September 2007 Goldsmith announced a reunion concert involving the surviving members of
Led Zeppelin in memory ofAtlantic Records founderAhmet Ertegün .He is currently working as a consultant for
Anschutz Entertainment Group , spearheading development of a new permanent exhibit called theBritish Music Experience which will open in Spring 2009 in The O2 in Greenwich, London.
