- Apple Records discography
This article is a
discography forApple Records , arecord label founded in1968 byThe Beatles . In addition to releasing The Beatles' work (although the rights remained withEMI ), Apple had an eclectic roster of other recording and publishing artists. The first group to have their work published by sister companyApple Publishing was Grapefruit, whose single "Dear Delilah" was released on RCA in early 1968. This did not, however, lead to them releasing any songs onApple Records . (Recording sessions were in London in late 1967, and the producer was the AmericanTerry Melcher ofThe Byrds fame). Apple Records' initial clutch of recording artists, apart from the Beatles, includedJames Taylor ,Mary Hopkin ,Jackie Lomax ,The Iveys (later to becomeBadfinger ) and The Pathfinders (renamed White Trash by Apple). The first singles to be released by Apple in the UK and US were the batch known as "Our First Four", comprising the Beatles' "Hey Jude", Hopkins' "Those Were the Days", Lomax's "Sour Milk Sea" and theBlack Dyke Mills Band 's "Thingumybob".Zapple Records was a subsidiary of Apple Records, intended to release
spoken word andavant garde records. It was active from October1968 until June1969 , and only two albums were released on the label:John Lennon andYoko Ono 's ("") andGeorge Harrison 's ("Electronic Sound "). Planned releases of a UK appearance by comedianLenny Bruce , and an album byRichard Brautigan 'Listening to Richard Brautigan ' was never completed, and the label was shut down byAllen Klein .Apple Records albums
