- Caringbah High School
Caringbah High School (sometimes referred to as Caringbah Selective High School) is located on Willarong Road North in the suburb of Caringbah, in the
Sutherland Shire ,Sydney . It is one of ten academically selective, public and co-educational high schools inNew South Wales . Caringbah High School students achieve consistently high marks in both theSchool Certificate (SC) and theHigher School Certificate (HSC). In the years 2000-2007, of the 150 student cohort, on average 11 students achieved 99+ (7%), 23 achieved 98+ (15%), and 48 achieved 95+ (31%), with over 98% of students gaining entrance into university. In the 2007 student HSC cohort the average UAI was 91. Caringbah High School also performs well in many other academic activities, such as public speaking, debating, tournament of the minds andHSC distinction courses .The school was opened in 1960 as a co-educational high school and was nominated to become selective in
1989 , over the neighbouring Port Hacking High. Currently there are around 900 students enrolled.School site
The school site is split between two
campus es, the "main" ("top school") and "annexe" ("bottom school"), these are linked by a narrow covered walkway and park. The "main" school is the original site which contains the primary administrative offices, school hall and canteen. Faculties
LOTE
At Caringbah High, language is compulsory in years 7 and 8 and it is taught as an elective for years 9-12. Languages taught include French, Japanese, and German. In year 7 students study two terms of German, one term of Japanese and one term of French. In year 8, each student picks their favourite language which they study for the whole year. Once in year nine, students have the option of doing their favourite language as one of their three electives.
English
Advanced English is the lowest English course offered at the Selective School, with the assumption that the vast majority will choose that or higher, including English Extension 1 and Extension 2, with the latter being offered in Year 12. Every year, students study a play by
Shakespeare , starting with "A Midsummer Night's Dream " in year seven.Music
Caringbah has a wide ranging music program which includes over fourteen musical ensembles, of which often compete in region and state-wide events and performances.

Caringbah High School has competed in the
Tournament of Minds for over 7 years. The schools many teams are run by the Careers teacher at the school, Mrs Lynne Grahame. The school regularly enters two Language Literature Teams, three Social Science Teams and a Maths/Engineering Team. In 2006, the Maths Engineering team, two Social Science teams and a Language Literature team received honours at a regional level. One Language Literature team went on to compete and receive honours at the State level.See also
