Holy Spirit Preparatory School is an independent,
Roman Catholic preparatory school located inAtlanta, Georgia and was established in 1996. It is located in theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta . The 730+ students in Kindergarten through 6th grade are located on a multi-acre site at 4820 Long Island Drive while thePreschool program is located at 4465 Northside Drive on the lower level ofHoly Spirit Catholic Church adjacent to the convert|57000|sqft|m2|-2|abbr=on Upper School campus which opened in the fall of 2004. Holy Spirit Preparatory School offers a classical curriculum in both Greek and Latin, Catholic Theology as well as typical college preparatory subjects. The Classics program is of major significance in support of the educational mission of the Catholic Church to provide informed Church historians, theologians and apologists.
Although an independent Catholic school it is closely tied to Holy Spirit Parish and the pastor of the parish serves as Board Chair of the school. Holy Spirit Preparatory School has a house system. There are four houses, each named after Ecumenical Councils. The houses are: House of Chalcedon, House of Trent, House of Lyons, and House of Nicaea. Each house has its own mascot and color.
House of Chalcedon: Cerberus- Purple
House of Trent: Dragon- Blue
House of Lyons: Lion- Orange
House of Nicaea: Eagle- RedIt was recently noted as one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the country by the National Catholic High School Honor Roll.
The school is accredited by the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and the Georgia Association of Independent Schools (GISA).The school also has a college offshoot Holy Spirit College which is authorized by the Georgia Non-Public Secondary Education Commission and accredited by the American Academy for Liberal Education. Dr. Paul Voss serves as Provost of the college and is advised by a Board of Visitors.
Its athletics program has been very strong in three areas. Soccer has had a strong showing since the beginning of the school, last year the Varsity team was runner up in the state competition. Cross Country and track have both had a strong showing on both Region and state levels. The Junior High Cross Country team had it's entire team qualify within the top 20 seeds for the State competition. Track has had many state titles won for the school. Stats for track could not be reached. Additionally, in 2007 both the Varsity Golf and Football Teams won their respective Region Championships.
