Adel Iskandar (aka Adel Iskandar Farag) (born
March 15 1977 ) is aMiddle East media scholar,postcolonial theorist andmedia reform activist. He is the author and co-author of several seminal works on Arab media, most prominently the first major analysis of the Arab satellite stationAl Jazeera .Born to an Egyptian family of physicians in
Edinburgh ,Scotland , he grew up inKuwait , escaping the Iraqi invasion and the 1991Persian Gulf War . At the age of 16, he moved toCanada where he earned his degree inSocial Anthropology andBiology fromDalhousie University in Halifax,Nova Scotia . He later earned a masters inCommunication fromPurdue University Calumet in Hammond,Indiana .He proposes the concept of " objectivity" as a critique of media's coverage of war.
