Green Mountain National Forest is a national forest located in Vermont.It is 396,219 acres (619 sq mi, or 1,603.4 km²) of various types of forest supporting many species of wildlife. Common mammals found in the Green Mountain National forest are beaver, moose, black bear, white tailed deer, among others. It also supports an abundant variety of bird species. The forest was established in 1932.
In descending order of land area it is located in parts of Bennington, Addison, Rutland, Windham, Windsor, and Washington counties. The forest headquarters are in Rutland, Vermont, alongside those of Finger Lakes National Forest in New York. [http://www.fs.fed.us/land/staff/lar/2007/TABLE_6.htm]
