Patti Schmidt (born
June 2 ,1968 ) is a Canadian radio personality onCBC Radio . She currently lives inMontreal .Patti grew up in
Ottawa , and attendedMcGill University as an undergraduate. While at McGill, she became involved withCKUT-FM . In 1991, CBC hired her on a series of temporary contracts with "Brave New Waves ", a show of which she was a big fan. She then became the primary host of "Brave New Waves", replacingBrent Bambury , and hosted the program between 1995–2006. She was also the executive producer.As of September 2006, Patti hosts the weekly
CBC Radio One show "Cinq à Six " from Montreal, a program "that explores new directions in culture inQuebec - directions in music, literature, theatre, architecture and design and in the business of art."On
March 19 ,2007 , Schmidt became weekend host of "Canada Live ", a new program onCBC Radio Two devoted to concert performances. She also hosts "Inside the Music ", a program which airs documentary reports on Canadian musicians.In September 2008, Patti will begin a graduate degree in Communications and Art History at McGill University. She will continue at CBC Radio, only, as the host of Inside the Music.
Music career
During the mid-to-late 1990s she was the lead singer and bassist with
Pest 5000 , a band that also featured "Brave New Waves" producerGeneviève Heistek . She is currently the vocalist andbassist with the bandNanobot Auxiliary Ballet . AlongsideJeff Waye (manager/owner of the North American component ofNinja Tune Records), the pair started the Ta-Darecord label , and released a self-titled album.External links
