Dr. D.Y. Patil College of Engineering, Pune is part of the Padmashree Dr.D.Y. Patil Group of Institutions in India. This institution has four campuses in Pune - Akurdi , Pimpri, Lohegaon & Talegaon Dabhade. Dr.D.Y. Patil College of Engineering was established in the year 1984.The Dr.D.Y. Patil College of Engineering is permanently affiliated to University of Pune (ranked 5 star University by NAAC). It is designated as a grade "A" College by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Government of Maharashtra. The college courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) & are recognized by the Institution of Engineers (India).
The Akurdi campus is presently spread over 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land at Akurdi, in the vicinity of Pimpri-Chinchwad Industrial belt, which is one of the biggest Industrial belts in Asia.
The college with its monumental buildings, is well equipped with ultra modern facilities. The college hostel with modern facilities and amenities is situated within the campus.
The students of the college are benefited by activities of Training and Placement department, which has close liaison with Industry.
Tata Motors has established its center for excellence in mechanical design at the akurdi campus. Over the years, the college has expanded in facilities and various disciplines. The college is named after Dr. D.Y. Patil current Governor of Tripura State, Republic of India

He has materialized his dreams under the umbrella of prestigious education institutes in Kolhapur, Navi Mumbai and Pune. Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil is the Governor of Tripura since 27th Nov 2009.He is pioneer in ushering an era of privatization of technical education in Maharashtra. He is a philanthropist, educationist and social worker and under his able guidance the Pratishthan has more than hundred academic institutes of international repute, from kindergarten to post graduation levels in various disciplines of education.
His regard and respect for traditional values and openness to modern ideas, blended perfectly with his admirable personality. Humble and unassuming Dr. D.Y. Patil is better known for his work, rather than the awards and recognition he has received over the years. For his pioneering contribution in the field of education, he was honored with the title 'Padmashree' by the President of India. He is also awarded two Doctorates in philosophy, the first by The World University Round Table (USA) in 1985 and later by Britain (UK) in 1996.
