History
In the early days of the colony, the hill behind old Government House had been named ‘Rose Hill’ by
Governor Arthur Phillip , before the suburb had been named Parramatta. Nearly a hundred years later in 1883, convert|850|acre|km2 of John Macarthur’sElizabeth Farm were subdivided for industrial purposes. Part of the estate was set aside for a recreation area, which became Rosehill Racecourse.A public school opened here in 1886 and the railway station opened in 1988 on the Carlingford line, which was a private railway line until it was taken over by the state government in 1904.
