Robert Glenn Hubbard is an American
economist . He is Dean of theColumbia University Graduate School of Business, where he is also Russell L. Carson Professor of Finance and Economics. He is also a professor of economics in Columbia's Faculty of Arts and SciencesHubbard is a Visiting Scholar at the
American Enterprise Institute , where he studies tax policy and health care.Professor Hubbard received his
B.A. and B.S. degrees "summa cum laude" from theUniversity of Central Florida in 1979, and hisPh.D. in economics fromHarvard University in 1983.Hubbard has been at
Columbia University since 1988. From February 2001 until March 2003, he was chair of theCouncil of Economic Advisors under PresidentGeorge W. Bush . He was named dean ofColumbia Business School onJuly 1 , 2004.He was tipped by some media outlets to be a candidate for the position of
Chairman of the Federal Reserve whenAlan Greenspan retired, although he was not nominated for the position.A supply-side economist, he was instrumental in the design of the 2003 Bush Tax cuts.
In the spring of 2006, Columbia Business school students produced a parody video, "Every breath Bernanke takes", describing Hubbard's supposed disappointment at not receiving the nomination to be Chairman of the Federal Reserve. The video is a mock music video remix of
The Police 's song "Every Breath You Take ". The comedy troupe which produced the video also made one in 2005 about Hubbard, playing off theVanilla Ice song "Ice Ice Baby ". These videos have been popularized by Internet sites and blogs.Professor Hubbard is married to Constance Pond Hubbard, and has two sons. His brother, Gregg Hubbard, is the keyboardist for the country band,
Sawyer Brown .On January 11, 2006, it was announced that he has been tapped to serve on the advisory board of a
think tank formed by theFederal Reserve Bank of Dallas to study the impact ofglobalization on the international economy.In 2007, Hubbard signed on as an economic advisor for
