Opened November 2003, REDCAT, the Roy and Edna Disney/
CalArts Theater is the downtownLos Angeles exhibition venue of theCalifornia Institute of the Arts . Located in theFrank Gehry -designedWalt Disney Concert Hall complex, REDCAT is a 7000-square foot black box theater, 3000-square foot exhibition space, and comfortable lounge. The lounge offers espresso, beer, wine, liquor, and free Wi-Fi connection, as well as being an outlet for Dutton's Bookstore. Programming at REDCAT features experimental dance, theater, music, film and visual arts exhibitions from around the world.It is often comapred toThe Kitchen in New York. Mrs. Disney's initial gift of $50 million was increased by members of the Disney family, including Roy Disney, to an estimated total of $84.5 million.
