|Hurlers Cross ("Cros an Iománaí" in Irish) is a small town in
County Clare , southwesternIreland , situated close to Shannon Town and some 6 km from bothSixmilebridge andNewmarket-on-Fergus . It forms a part of Newmarket-on-Fergus parish. The name is derived from the meeting of three roads: to Shannon, Newmarket-on-Fergus, and
Limerick . The last named is now closed off at the western end of the town, following the opening of a dual-carriageway bypass (N18/N19) serving the Limerick to Shannon route, which has taken away the heavy traffic that was once a feature of Hurlers Cross.
