Andrew Rathbone (born
8 September ,1971 inBlacon ,Chester ) is an Englishdrummer and was a member of therock band Mansun .Rathbone was the third and final drummer in Mansun, brought in after the band had "internal conflict" with the previous two. Rathbone, then an Audi Car salesman, had previously studied at Drumtech in London, and was playing in a local band called 'The Wandering Quatrains' He had attracted the interests of the members of Mansun with his drumming skills and flamboyant look. Originally turning the band down because he thought they played "
Britpop shite", he later had a change of heart after the band played him a demo of their new song called "Wide Open Space" He joined the band shortly before theirdebut album "Attack of the Grey Lantern " was released.Rathbone's initiation into the band wasn't without mishap; arriving for his first live gig with the band, flicking through a copy of the
NME for details, Rathbone found he had got the wrong train and instead of the correct destination of Brighton, he had in fact arrived at Bristol Temple Meads.Shortly after, his first proper gig with the band was a televised appearance on
Channel 4 showTFI Friday , where the band performed "Stripper Vicar ".Since the breakup of Mansun, Rathbone has gone on to become a successful inventor and drum teacher.
