At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics she won the silver medal with a European record (70.03m) by finishing second behind Osleidys Menéndez, who set a new world record at the same event.
Obergföll finished 4th at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg.
With 70.20m, she improved her own European record at the European Cup Super League meeting in Munich on 23 June 2007.[1]
At the 2008 Summer Olympics she won the bronze medal, but lost the European record to Mariya Abakumova and Barbora Špotáková.
She threw had the third best mark of the season in 2010 (68.63 m) at the DKB-duels in Elstal.[2]
