Gildeskål is a municipality in the county of
Nordland , Norway.Gildeskål was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see
formannskapsdistrikt ).Beiarn was separated from Gildeskål in 1853. Gildeskål is part of theBodø Region .The name
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Gildeskål (Norse "Gildaskáli"), since the first church was built there. The first element is the plural genitive case of "gildi" n 'feast, banquet', the last element is "skáli" m 'hall'.
Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1988). It shows a cup. (The motive is inspired by the meaning of the name "Gildeskål" - see above.)
