Lardal is a municipality in the county of Vestfold, Norway. It is divided into the parishes Svarstad, Styrvoll and Hem.

The parish of "Laurdal" was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt).

The name

The Norse form of the name was "Lagardalr". The first element is the genitive case of "logr" 'water; river' (here Numedalslågen). The last element is "dalr" m 'valley, dale'. (See also > Larvik.)

Until 1889 the name was written "Laurdal".

The coat of arms was approved in 1992 and shows a hulder.
