Eidskog in the south, byKongsvinger in the east, and byNord-Odal and Grue in the north . The terrain is dominated by rolling hills, lakes, and evergreen forests.The name
The last element is the old district name Odal (Norse "Ódalr"). The first element of this is "ó", a sideform of "á" f 'river' (here
Glåma ). The last element is "dalr" m 'valley, dale'.The first element Sør- ('southern') was added after 1819 when the parish Odal was divided in two. (See
