Ahmad Rushdi

Ahmad Rushdi was a famous Pakistani film singer of the 1960s and 1970s. He was born in 1938 in a middle class family in Hyderabad Deccan, India. He migrated to Pakistan soon after independence. He started his showbiz career as a stage actor in 1952 in Hyderabad. He sung his first song for the film Ibrat. He migrated to Pakistan in 1954 and joined Radio Pakistan, Karachi. He was honoured to sing "The National Anthem of Pakistan" with other ten singers in 1955. His first superhit song on Radio was: "Bandar Road se Kemari, meri chali re Ghorra Garhi...".

Ahmad Rushdi's first film as playback singer was Karnama but Anokhi was the first released film. He got his breakthrough in Lahore from the film Speran in 1961. Film Mehtab's song "Gol Gappe wala aya, gol gappe laya" was his first mega hit song. His last film as playback singer was Mashiq-o-Maghrib released in 1986 after three years of his death. He died on April 11, 1983.
