- Chand Kaur
-
Chand Kaur was briefly a Regent of the sovereign country of Punjab and the Sikh Empire. She was the wife of Kharak Singh and thus daughter-in-law of Ranjit Singh. She was the mother of Nau Nihal Singh. She remained regent for ~2 & half months, from 5 November 1840 - 18 January 1841, in preparation for Sher Singh's coronation and becoming Maharaja. The fundamentalists who blame Dogra brothers for the weaknesses of Ranjit 's family forget that this queen was stoned to death by her maids and Sher Singh 's khalsa minions to make way for him on the throne. Chand kaur was regent while Nau Nihal ' wife was pregnant and once she was removed, Sher Singh became regent, Nau Nihal 's child also vanished.
