Sri Sarada Residential School (also called SSRS) was the first English medium school in both East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh. It was founded in 1983 by B.R.K Raju, who served as member and chairman of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission between 2005 and 2011. Anglo-Indian teachers from Bangalore and Mysore were appointed to teach the children in English Medium. The school, although established with a small budget, was open for more than a decade.
At the beginning it was established in Prakruthi Asharam of Bhimavaram Town. A couple of years later it was shifted to the centre of the town, since when its wing Junior college by name Sri Sarada Residential College was started in the 1990s. In the 1990s the school was visited by political figures such as Rajesh Pilot, Jalagam Vengala Rao, Konijeti Rosaiah, Nallapareddy Srinivasulu Reddy and Nannapaneni Rajakumari. Thousands of students had successfully come out of this school as doctors, district collectors, engineers, government officers, and hundreds of poor children were given free education in a span of 15 years.
The school stood for a popular slogan 'knowledge is power' on its emblem of the Goddess Saraswati. The school was run until 1997, and was then restarted in 2001 with the name of Murthyraju Residential School, and was merged into the Sasi Merit School[1] in 2005.
