Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith is a branch of
Ramakrishna Mission . It is aresidential school for boys with a calm environment of ancientgurukul system. It was founded by SwamiHiranmayanandaji Maharaj in the year of 1958. The then chief minister ofWest Bengal had a great role as he requested Ramakrishna Mission to establish an educational institution inPurulia .This branch institution of Ramakrishna Mission order runs on the mighty educational philosophy of Swami Vivekananda which calls for the "Man making and character building" education. Located on the lap of nature in a undeveloped rural area of Vivekanandanagar, this institution is a storehouse for natural splendor and educational excellence. This total residential school starts from 5th standard up to the Higher Secondary. Presently, the secretary cum headmaster of the institution is Swami Atmapravananda.A brief description
This school stands on a huge area of approximately 2.25 sq.km. It is located in an underdeveloped rural area named Bongabari. There is a large temple containing the statues and imageries of Sri Ramakrishnadev, Sri ma Sarada, Swami Vivekananda and other direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishnadev. There are two school buildings- the junior classes (class 5 to 7) are run in the Vivek Mandir while the senior classes along with the administrative works are done in the Sarda Mandir. There is well-developed hospital, a dispensary where free medicines are provided to the poor people of the district, a dairy which fulfills the nutritional requirements of the dwellers, a biogas plant which provides the needed fuel to the kitchens, a museum, the "Kala Mandir"- center for art and culture, a small gymnasium, a Work House for teaching the students some practical works like electrical works, sewing, wood works, clay works etc. Besides there is a large residential area of the teachers of this school whose name is " Gurupalli" which derived its origin from the Sanskrit word "Gurugriha" with the same meaning. Last but not the least there are 6 hostel buildings for students of different classes. The hostel for the junior (V-VII) is the Shivananda sadan, then the Brahmananda sadan (X), the Vivekananda sadan(IX), the Ramakrishna sadan (VIII) and the Sarada and the Matri sadan for the Higher Secondary boys. Each of the hostels has separate study hall except for the Shivananda sadan. The junior boys do their study in their classrooms itself.
