Os (spelled Ohs in older documents) is a small village that is part of Värnamo Municipality, in Småland province of southern Sweden. It is known for the Museum railway, a narrow gauge railway only 600 mm wide, that has steam trains. The railway was created in the summer of 1910.
Location and history
Os is situated by south tip of the lake Rusken, where also the historical Nydala Abbey is situated at the lake-shore. The community is founded around a mill that produced energy for iron production from 1600. In 1893 it was converted to paper pulp factory, which operated until 1978. The old factory is now museum and the manor house is a tourist attraction. Since the paper mill closed to population is today down to around 100 persons. Many foreigners own former small residential houses in the area for vacation needs.
