History
The company was originally incorporated to deliver a private housing and lifestyle model to senior citizens throughout the UK. In 2005 the company began trading in London as a one stop shop home refurbishment company.
Association with IKEA
In November 2006 the company was awarded the Interbuild 2006 Construction Marketing Award for best campaign under £25,000 for it’s NOT FOR SALE estate agent sign campaign which began the company’s association with IKEA [1] who launched a £12m UK wide advertising campaign in September 2007 titled 'Home is the Most Important Place in the World' using estate agent signs with the term 'Not For Sale' written on them as part of the wider campaign. After the campaign appeared in the Metro newspaper London the business news website www.mad.co.uk remarked that the IKEA campaign had amazing similarities with the marketing activity of Onis[2]. After some negotiations Onis received free advertising from IKEA for one year via their campaign website (www.notgoinganywhere.co.uk) [3]. Onis is possibly the first company ever to be advertised by IKEA in this fashion.
Use of technology
In 2008 the company developed its own corporate web portal designed to simplify the administration of a change order on home improvement projects. The system eliminates the need for paperwork which traditionally makes the process of obtaining quotes and customer sign off time consuming. It is developed in PHP with a MySql database using a standard Apache web server running on Linux [4]
OnisVida
In 2009 Onis Living's founder Fraser Patterson co-founded Onis Vida with investors in Mexico. Through an alliance[5] with Infonavit, Latin America's largest mortgage lender, the company has built an Information Technology Enabled Service that aligns and secures the interests of homeowners, home remodeling contractors, building suppliers and financial institutions involved in the process of remodeling a home.
