Offshore divers v. Norway 2007.

In Offshore divers v. Norway 2007, four professional offshore divers sued Norway's Government in a trial in 2007.[1] Three plaintiffs won their cases in the lower court, however they lost their cases in the appellate court.

The trial was the first "legal test of the government’s legal responsibility to the divers" in Norway's sector of the North Sea, according to Associated Press.[2]

Trial

The trial started February 26, 2007 in Oslo District Court.

The plaintiffs were Magn Muledal, Åsbjørn Jørgensen, Angus Kleppe and Dag Vilnes. The organizations Offshore Dykker Unionen (ODU) and Industri Energi participated in the courtroom proceedings as hjelpeintervenienter.[1]

Verdict in the lower court

The verdict"ordered the government to pay a total of nearly 30 million kroner (US$5.4 million; €3.75 million) to three divers with similar claims"[2][3]

Appeal

On appeal, the plaintiffs lost the case.
