Official Payments Corporation, or OPC for short, is a source for electronic payment options to the United States government and other organizations. Tier Technologies Inc. wholly owns Official Payments Corporation as a subsidiary. Tier Technologies Inc. is a publicly traded company (NASDAQ:*TIER). Official Payments Corporation enables citizens to use their credit card or debit card to pay anything from parking citations to tax bills.

Contracts with federal, state and local government enable Official Payments Incorporated to collect and process payments from citizens. The company works directly with the government.

Company description

OPC offers "last minute" tax payment options. People located in the U.S. can use their telephone or the web to charge payments to various government entities including federal, state, and local branches. Customers have to choose a payment category and payment type. Various types of bills account for Official Payments Sales. The most poplar include: traffic fines, gas bills, electricity bills, water bills, tuition payments, and property tax bills. The IRS also accounts for a large portion of sales for Official Payments Incorporated.

Company history

Tier Technologies, a California based consulting firm, acquired Official Payments in 2002. Official Payments has been around since 1996. The company has been an IRS payment provider since 1999. Official Payments is a partner with the United States Internal Revenue Services, the District of Columbia, over four hundred colleges and universities, twenty-five state governments, over 2,500 municipal and local government agencies, and public/private interests in all fifty states.
