Odo, Viscount of Porhoet

Eudes/Odo II, count of Porhoet was the son of Geoffroy, Vicomte de Porhoët, and his wife Hawise (possibly Fergant). In 1148, after his marriage to Bertha, Duchess of Brittany, he became Duke of Brittany.

His first marriage was to Bertha, Duchess of Brittany. It was her second marriage, her first being to Alain 'le Noir' de Penthièvre, Lord of Richmond (Alan, 1st Earl of Richmond). On Bertha's death, Eudes/Odo denied her son Conan IV of Penthièvre, Duke of Brittany his inheritance. Eudes/Odo allied with his brother-in-law, Hoèl, Count of Nantes, in his effort to deny Conan III, Duke of Brittany his succession.

Deposed by his stepson in 1156, he was taken prisoner by Raoul de Fougères.

A possible second marriage, in 1167, was to Jeanne/Eléonore de Léon, daughter of Guiomar III, Vicomte de Léon & his unnamed wife. Although Robert of Torigny records the marriage, he does not name her.

  • Alix de Porhoët[3]. Mistress of Henry II, King of England.

  • Eudes/Odo III de Porhoët[4] ( died 1231). He was married, but the name of his wife is not known.


Possible child (with Jeanne/Eléonore)

  • Elenore, wife of Conan de Penthièvre[5] de La Roche-Derrien, son of Henri de Bretagne[6], Comte de Tréguier et de Guingamp, and Mathilde de Vendôme[7].
