Nuon produces, sells and delivers electricity, gas, heat and additional services. The company is active in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and has more than 2.7 million customers.[citation needed] With over 10,000 employees in 2005 it achieved a net turnover of €5 billion.[citation needed]
49% of Nuons shares belongs to vatetnfall. Other major shareholders are the provinces of Gelderland (22.784%) and Noord-Holland (4.671%), Amsterdam (4.671%) and B.V. Houdstermaatschappij Falcon of Friesland (6.449%). The other shareholders, each with less than 3% of the shares are around 65 smaller towns and the province of Flevoland.
