Nundah Spitfires Soccer Club

Nundah Spitfires Soccer Club were a soccer club based in Nundah in Brisbane's northern suburbs. The club was formed in 2000 by Mario Murtagh and folded in 2003, regrouping as Spitfires MKII. Nundah Spitfires played their home games at Boyd Park. Spitfires MKII started playing at the Grange Thistle club but recently moved to Bishop Park, home of Virginia United.

Nundah Spitfires formed a strong local rivalry with Virginia United, a club where many Nundah players transferred from.

In 2000, Irishman Mario Murtagh started the club which was considered a multicultural club with the many different nationalities signed to play for the club. In their first season there were Australian, Irish, Scottish, Iraqi, Indian, English, French and German players on the clubs playing list.

In 2001 the club grew to be a successful outfit and also included a women's team. Lead by Player Coach, English man Mark Owen, the club lead the ladder throughout the season but suffered defeat in the seasons grand final to Sparta. The 2001 team was filled with brilliant players, the most popular was New Caledonian Striker, Jean Baptiste Dialla, closely followed by the influential Randle brothers.

  • John Russell, Former scottish professional, Key central midfielder who controlled the play.
  • Roy Smyth, Former Northern Irish Professional, always second to Johnny Russell.
  • Spiro Haritopoulos, Was a gay icon to the clubs support base.
  • Paul Smith, The quiet one from the club.
  • Brian Tumulowicz, Hard hitting, often drunk scottsman, first choice signing.
  • Chris Gibson, Veteran Playmaker.
  • Woody Odisho, Played well in midfield.
