NoteUtopia Type Private Industry Electronic commerce Founded 2008 Headquarters San Francisco, CA Key people Ryan Stevens, President and Founder Products Online class notes sales Website http://www.noteutopia.com/ NoteUtopia is a website that allows students to buy and sell class notes and study guide. It was founded by California State University, Sacramento business graduate Ryan Stevens in San Francisco, California in 2008. Officially launched on August 31, 2010, the company currently has six full-time staff.[1][2][3]
After registering an account, students can charge others for the materials they uploaded through the website. The site recommends charging $1 for a note and $3 for a study guide. Additional features include a five-star rating system for notes and professors, as well as preview of the notes uploaded. Currently, the site has uploaded class schedules of over 150 schools nationwide; most of which are in California and offered notes by students of California State University, Chico and California State University, Sacramento. The company planned to roll out this service to other schools within the California State University system in a year, and to other US university in the future.[1][2]
Some students believe that the site has potential to become a useful resource. Others, however, feel uncomfortable with the idea of downloading notes written by student, when most professors already post lecture notes online.[1][2]
