Notaviva Vineyards is a winery located near Purcellville in Loudoun County, Virginia, and instead of pairing its wines with food, Notaviva Vineyards pairs its wines with music. Each year the winery offers a wine and music pairing event, whereby five blind tastings of wine are offered while a widely varied playlist of music clips plays. Guests have the opportunity to rate how well each music clips goes with the wine, and results of this focus group are posted online for all to share. It has been illustrated that various genres of music do in fact complement certain styles of wine better than others. Each wine is named for a musical term or inspiration e.g. "Cantabile" Cabernet Franc (cantabile means "graceful" or "full of expression" in musical parlance).
The vineyards at Notaviva were established in 2005 with an acre each of Viognier and Cabernet Franc, and continued to expand in 2006 with additional Viognier and in 2009 with an acre each of Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Verdot and Blaufrankisch to a total of six acres under vine. The wines have won awards in the Virginia State Fair Wine Competition and the International Eastern Wine Competition.
The construction of Notaviva Vineyard's timber-frame tasting room was featured on HGTV's show "Dream House".[1]
