Norwegian Social Research (Norwegian: Norsk institutt for forskning om oppvekst, velferd og aldring, NOVA) is a social science research institute based in Oslo, Norway.
It was established on 1 July 1996, as a merger between four institutes. It is subordinate to the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. Its purpose is to conduct "research on different aspects of society and the welfare state", focusing "on the whole range of the life course".
The current director general of NOVA is philologist Magnus Rindal. The three research directors are Elisabeth Backe-Hansen, John Eriksen and Viggo Nordvik.
