Nine Muses (나인뮤지스) is a seven-member South Korean girl group under Korean music label Star Empire Entertainment. The group made their official debut in August 2010 with the single "No Playboy" as well as the released of their first mini album, Let's Have A Party.[1]

In late 2010/early 2011, the group went on hiatus to record their next comeback single/album. During this hiatus, the group again went on several changes of line-up. It has been said that for the past year, they've been undergoing intense training to improve both their physical and musical qualities, and as they have spent a long time preparing themselves, both music label and the group were confident in their new image.

History

Debut

Before their official debut, Nine Muses released a track for Prosecutor Princess' OST called "Give Me". The group was announced on March 26, 2010, after their maknae gained a lot of interest from the public when she appeared in the music video of label mates, ZE:A (another 9 member band from Star Empire Entertainment). It wasn't until August 12, 2010, that Nine Muses made an official debut with the mini album "Let's Have a Party". The title track of the album being "No Playboy", a song produced by composer Rainstone, and Park Jin Young. Nine Muses originally had 14 potential members. When the name of the group was announced, the company selected the nine members most ready to debut in the group.

Later into their debut, member Jaekyung left the group to focus on her modeling career and was replaced by Hyuna. In late 2010, the girls continued with follow-up promotions with the song "Ladies".[2]

Nine Muses in a car accident

On September 8, 2010, it was reported that the members of Nine Muses has been involved in a car accident after they had left the Grand Carnival. The cause of the accident was that one of the tires of the van was replaced by a tire that was not the correct size, causing a loss of balance, which unfortunately caused the accident. All the members were taken to a hospital, where it was confirmed only five received minor injuries, though all were traumatized by the accident.[3] Following the accident, their company, Star Empire Entertainment suspended their activities briefly until they had all recovered.

Advances to Japan

In December 6, 2010, it was announced that the band was preparing to advance to Japan. They would perform on Seoul Train, which is an event in which K-pop artists and groups perform for their Japanese fans. On December 26, 2010, Nine Muses held a successful performance of six songs on Seoul Train alongside V.O.S. and ZE:A.[4]

2011 - present: Line-up changes, Figaro and mini-album

It was confirmed on June 9 that the group would become a seven-member sub-unit. Star Empire Entertainment initially stated that Rana and Bini are still in the group, but are not participating in this round of promotions[5]. However, On August 11th, after months of hiatus, Star Empire announced Rana and Bini's official departure from Nine Muses. The decision was mutual as Rana and Bini wanted to pursue individual activities. However, they are still signed with the company.[6] The new single titled "Figaro" was released on August 18th.[7] The girls added their eighth member Kyungri, who joined them in promoting their new mini-album in November 2011.
