Nine Gates Infantry Commander

Nine Gates Infantry Commander (Chinese: 步軍統領、九門提督) is a military post of the Qing Dynasty, in charge of safe guarding, and monitoring traffic and the opening times of the nine gates of the Peking City, namely Zhengyangmen, Chongwenmen, Andingmen, Fuchengmen, Xizhimen, Dongzhimen, Xuangwumen, Dehshengmen, Zhaoyangmen. The judicial responsibility include night patrol, fire fighting, security checking on civilians, apprehending and arresting of criminals, prison keeping. The role also included the military safe guarding of the Forbidden City. Throughout the Qing Dynasty history, the position was always held by Manchu ministers.[1][2]

During the Boxer Rebellion, Ronglu was the Nine Gates Infantry Commander.
