Early Life
Nikhil Dwivedi was born in a middle-class family from Allahabad and owing to his father’s profession as a banker, he had to often move around and change residences from time-to-time. Nikhil thus grew up in a number of towns around Uttar Pradesh before finally the family decided to move to Mumbai for good.
A proper, well-rounded education meant a lot to him and Nikhil has completed all stages of schooling working towards this objective. He completed his primary and higher secondary education from Sherwood College in Nainital, Uttarakhand, India whose notable alumni list includes the legendary Indian film actor Amitabh Bachchan as well who has influenced Nikhil’s acting ambition majorly. He completed his graduation in the city of Mumbai and his Masters in Financial Management from Symbiosis International, Pune.
He was picked up by American Express Bank through the campus placements system and worked for AEB before moving on to work for a consumer electronics conglomerate. However, he gave up all of this to pursue his first love, that is, films – Acting!
Film Career
In fact, when he received his first major break to star as the lead in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves, he kept his family in the dark and would go for the shoot on the pretext of work. It was only when his family read about the movie in the leading entertainment magazine, Filmfare, did they realize that their son is actually going to become an actor.
Nikhil Dwivedi made his movie debut with My Name is Anthony Gonsalves in early 2008 which was directed by E. Niwas and co-produced by Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chillies production house. He was instantly recognized for the role that he played of a strong and ambitious yet good-at-heart Anthony Gonsalves and he went on to bag the role of Lakshman in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan that also starred Abhiskek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan. His third movie Shor in the City brought him critical and commercial success where he played the role of Ramesh alongside Tusshar Kapoor in the Balaji Telefilms production. Nikhil Dwivedi has thus remained in the limelight and not faded away as a one-time actor as each of his three movies have been big-banner productions and have been of the thinking-movie mould.
His biggest inspiration when it comes to acting and films is fellow Sherwoodian, Amitabh Bachchan and he swears by all of his films and dialogues as he grew up watching all of his films and is a self-confessed fan of Amitabh Bachchan.
Personal Life
Nikhil Dwivedi recently tied the knot with model Gauri Pandit, who is a model by profession and has worked both in India and in Europe and they had a small intimate ceremony held in early 2011.
The wedding reception was a star-studded event with the guest list including renowned actors such as Salman Khan, Farah Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, Anil Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Manish Malhotra and Sonu Sood amongst others.
Technology Freak
Nikhil Dwivedi is a big-time gizmo-freak and has some envious antique cameras as part of his collection. Some of these include the antique camera used by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 1942, a 100-year old still camera dating back to 1911 and a small projector model built in 1958.
His most favourite quote is – ‘Above all there is God’.
