Biography

Born in Effin, County Limerick, Quaid comes from a family that has had a long association with Gaelic games. His grandfather, Jack Quaid, was one of the key players on the Limerick team which beat London in the 1954 All-Ireland junior final. He won a Munster senior medal the following year when a Mick Mackey-trained team shocked Clare in the provincial decider. Quaid's uncles and aunt all took to the hurling field as well. Séamus Quaid was a stalwart of the Feohanagh club until he emigrated to Australia. John Quaid represented his county at minor and under 21 levels while Pat Quaid also served as a member of the Limerick under-21 hurling panel. Noreen Quaid represented her local club and county in camogie. Quaid's father, Tommy Quaid, was the first choice goalkeeper for Limerick between 1976 and 1993, while his cousin, Joe Quaid, succeeded him in the same position from 1994 until 2002.[2]

Quaid was educated locally and later attended Institute of Technology, Tralee. Here he won a Ryan Cup medal and was Man of the Match in the final when Tralee won the title in 2011. He later won a Higher Ed All Star award.

Playing career

Club

Quaid plays his club hurling the Effin club and has enjoyed some success.

2010 proved to be busy year for Quaid. That year he captured a county junior hurling title following a victory over St. Kieran's in the final. Effin were later defeated by Meelin in the provincial club series. That same year Quaid lined out in the county senior hurling final for divisional side Emmets. Kilmallock provided the opposition and won the game by 1-16 to 1-12.[3]

In 2011 Quaid helped Effin to win the Limerick Intermediate Championship.

Inter-county

Quaid first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Limerick under-21 team, however, he enjoyed little success in this grade.

In 2010 Quaid broke onto the Limerick senior team when the vast majority of the regular team went on strike due to the management of Justinb McCarthy. He made his debut in a National Hurling League game against Galway, however, Limerick lost all of their group games and were eventually relegated.[4] Later that year Quaid made his championship debut against Cork.
