Early life and education

Pinnock was born in Balham, South London, growing up with his family in Hartley, Kent. He is the youngest of three children. His older brother and sister are both secondary school teachers. Both his parents are Jamaican.[1] His mother is a retired midwife and his father is an electrical engineer who works for a major global engineering company. As a result, Pinnock spent his early childhood living in Saudi Arabia. Whilst attending school there, his teachers recognised his talent for performing. He would perform in school talent shows, dancing and singing.

On his return to England, he was enrolled at Corona Academy Stage School in Hammersmith, London at the age of 12. Whilst there, in his first week, he made his professional debut landing several jobs as a child actor from adverts to music videos; film and television work to modelling. Continuing his vocational training, Pinnock attended a 3 year musical theatre course at the London Studio Centre. After 1 year, he decided acting was his first love and the following 2 yrs concentrated on drama and contemporary dance.

After graduating and still acting, Pinnock joined Lea Anderson's Contemporary Dance Company the Featherstonehaughs, for several years. He went on to do some commercial dance work for various artists and fashion events.

Acting career

In 1986, as a child actor, Pinnock starred in the fantasy drama TV serial Mr Magus is Waiting For You, based on the novel by Gene Kemp and following the adventures of four young children who get mixed up with a mysterious magician.[2] He then went on to play guest roles in television programmes like Grange Hill, Eastenders, The Bill, Dalziel & Pascoe, Footballers Wives and Casualty, to name but a few.[1] TV movies followed such as Kingdom of The Blind with Clive Owen and Diamonds with James Purefoy.[1] Theatre work included As You Like It at Staffordshire Castle at the Staffordshire Shakespeare Festival, followed by working with directors like Kathy Burke in Hampstead Theatre's production of Born Bad and David Grieg and Marisa Zanotti in the Edinburgh Official Festival's production of the critically acclaimed San Diego and most recently Topdog/Underdog[3] in Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre.

Pinnock appeared in his first Hollywood feature film, this summer's blockbuster, Captain America: The First Avenger[1] as a SHIELD Tech and has just finished filming the role of Leon in a four part drama called Top Boy, which was broadcast on Channel 4 over four consecutive nights from 31 October 2011.[4]

Writing

Pinnock has always had a passion for poetry and is currently in negotiation with a publishing house regarding a book of his works. Pinnock has finished writing his first screenplay, 7 Days, that has been picked up for production by Homefield Advantage in association with Big Smile Pictures and is being produced by Mark Findlay, one of the executive producers of Bafta award winning film, Four Lions. Production is scheduled to start April 2012.
