Nguyen Chi Linh

Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh (born 22 November 1949) is the bishop of Thanh Hoa in Vietnam since 2004.[1] Joseph is his Christian name, while Nguyễn Chí Linh is his Vietnam name.

Early Life

Linh was born in Ba Lang, Tinh Gia, Thanh Hoa Province, Bac Trung Bo, Vietnam) on 22 November 1949, the son of Christian parents (Thiher Giaia, Thanh Hoa) from a modest background.

He attended the minor seminary in Nha Trang (1962-67), the program "Divine Providence" in Hue (1967-68), the program "Good Shepherd" in Nha Trang (1968-70) and the Pontifical College of St. Pius X in Da-Lat (1970-1977).

With the political events in his homeland, he had to return to his family and 14 years of hard work, but he was also active as an intern in the parish of Phan Tang, Ninh Thuan.

Priesthood

On 20th December 1992 he was ordained a priest consecrated the Diocese of Nha Trang incardinated. He then spent three years in the parish of Phuoc Thien (1992-1995).

From 1995 to 2003, he was sent to study French at the Catholic Institute of Paris, and graduated with a doctorate in philosophy. In November 2003 he returned to his home diocese in Vietnam and taught as a professor at the Seminary of Nha Trang.

On 12 June 2004 Pope John Paul II appointed him as the new bishop of Thanh Hoa [2].
