Newells Preparatory School
History
The school was originally known as Seafield Park and was established in 1887 at Fareham, Hampshire. Upon the outbreak of World War II, the school was evacuated to the Duke of Bedford's country home at Endsleigh, Milton Abbott, near Tavistock, Devon. At the conclusion of the war,the Duke of Bedford required his country home again so the school was moved ; this time to Newells, Lower Beeding, near Horsham, Sussex. The name Seafield Park was then dropped and the school became known as Newells. The school remained at Lower Beeding until 1968 when a disastrous fire destroyed most of the buildings. By necessity the school was then amalgamated with Desmoor preparatory school at Handcross Park. The name Newells was eventually dropped; today it is known as Handcross Park School.
