Neocirrhites armatus is a hawkfish from the Pacific Ocean, approximately 9 cm (3.5 inches) in length. Its brilliant color (bright red with black dorsal markings) and alert demeanor means that it occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. Flame hawkfish lack a swim bladder (as do most hawkfishes) and are perchers and bottom-dwellers, living on and about coral heads and stony reefs.References
