Nazlı Süleyman (also known as Natalie Suleyman) was a councillor of Brimbank, Australia. She was elected to her third consecutive term on Council at the election on 26 November 2005, as one of three Councillors representing the new Taylors Ward. She was elected to her third term as Mayor on 6 December 2005. Suleyman has lived in St Albans all her life, where she attended a local public secondary school. Suleyman’s parents were Turkish Cypriot migrants who came to Australia from Cyprus in the 1960s and worked hard to carve out a life for themselves in a new country. [1]
Suleyman did not seek re-election at the 2008 local government elections.
Brimbank Community Festival
Suleyman’s aspiration of holding a community festival to celebrate the many cultures that make up Brimbank became a reality, when the Brimbank Community Festival was held at West Sunshine Community Centre in September 2005.
Sunshine funding
Suleyman launched the Sustainable Sunshine program in Brimbank City Council which is a sustainable business management program that sees traders in Sunshine and the Sunshine Shopping Centre precinct benefit from reductions in waste going to landfill, water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and increased bottom line results. It is currently the largest operating program of its kind in Australia. [2]
