National War Museum (Malta)

The National War Museum is located in Fort St. Elmo, Valletta, Malta. Its collection on display mainly focuses on World War I and World War II.^[1]

In World War II, Malta was the location of strong resistance against the Italian and German attempt to conquer it. An example is provided from Operation Pedestal. A memorial had been dedicated to those who sacrificed themselves for Malta’s freedom. The original George Cross that was awarded to Malta by King George VI in April 1942, is on display at the museum. There is a wing dedicated to the two years of French occupation of the island (between 1798 and 1800). There are also collections of military items from the recently ended Great Britain period and some references to the First World War.

This museum is one of the most popular tourist venues on the Maltese islands.^[2]
