National Stores Inc. is a chain of clothing retail stores with headquarters in the Harbor Gateway area of Los Angeles, California;[1] the headquarters is located near the City of Gardena.[2] The chains operated by National Stores include Factory 2-U, Fallas Discount Stores, Fallas Kids, and Fallas Paredes.[3] Allison Wollam of the Houston Business Journal said that Fallas Paredes, a brand operated by National Stores, as "a value-oriented family clothing store".[4] Fallas Paredes buys closeouts from uniform manufacturers, such as French Toast.[5] Fallas Paredes caters to the Hispanic American community.[6]
History
The company opened in 1962 with one store in Los Angeles. The chains operated by National Stores include Factory 2-U, Fallas Discount Stores, Fallas Kids, and Fallas Paredes.[3]
After Weiner's in Houston closed in 2001, National Stores took over many of the store locations that were held by Weiner's.[4][7] National Stores acquired 31 of the 97 Houston-area Weiner's leases.[4]
After San Diego, California-based Factory 2-U Stores, Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in February 2004, it arranged the sale of 172 stores to National Stores.[8] In August of that year, Factory 2-U stores announced that it was liquidating and that it would receive $28 million from selling about all of its assets to Factory 2-U Liquidation LLC, a consortium headed by National Stores.[9]
