Career File
Nate Perry began his professional music career as a production showband bassist on cruise ships while pursuing a B.A. in music from Humboldt State University & The University of Memphis where he appeared with The Memphis Symphony. Shortly after relocating to L.A., he joined modern rock band Fractional Importance who released three records independently; working with producers John Travis(Kid Rock, Social D) & Don Kazarinoff(Incubus, Hoobastank). Local awareness of the band grew as they filled venues like The Troubadour & The Roxy. This led to some regional and national touring with bands such as Smile Empty Soul and Seether. After leaving Fractional, he briefly joined pop/rock band Stars Align(formerly Neve) in 2006. A handful of well-received local shows followed, supporting bands such as Augustana and One Republic. The band released a self-titled EP in late '09, produced by country music star Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts fame, featuring Perry on bass.[3][4][5][6][7][8]
In late 2006, Perry joined experimental rock outfit Manic who released their debut EP, Floorboards on Geffen Records. A two-month NME Tour of the United Kingdom followed, along with appearances at SXSW '07 and much regional touring; including a month-long residency at famed L.A. venue The Echo. Their second EP, Another New Home, produced by Manic, featured more writing by Perry; including the single Carolina Ghost which gained traction at college and satellite radio, as well as spins on L.A.'s now defunct Indie 103.1. The single was later remixed by Joel Petersen of The Faint and released as a limited edition 7" vinyl. Although the band received accolades from press, drawing comparisons to Pink Floyd & Radiohead, they failed to meet major label sales expectations and left their label in early 2008. The band released their self-produced LP A Strange Audience in late 2008.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
