Narayankhed is a Taluka in Medak District. It is a constituency that has 5 mandals namely Kalher, Kangti, Manoor, Narayankhed and Shankrampet. This region is relatively backward owing to the fact that it is just about 80 miles away from the capital of the state Andhra Pradesh. Most the people of this region belong to the backward castes. There is a large section of the public that speak Kannada because of the proximity of theis region to Bidar, once a capital of Karnataka. There is also a high population of Scheduled Tribes in this region. Since the time of independence, there was heavy dominance of the upper castes but over the last decade because of various factors such as locals migrating to the city and develoment of local businesses, this place is growing.Former PM of India, Shrimati Indira Gandhi contested an election from Medak and won convincingly and yet this part of her Lok Sabha Constituency did not see any development of basic infrastructure or roads. The Congress Party has been ruling this constituency for the third time running but owing to the lack of morality on part of the rulers the people still continue to suffer. Narayankhed town, the taluka headquarters is very under developed with the Local Government hospital lacking basic facilities to treat the most minor of cases.
