- NAO Dance Technique
-
NAO Dance Technique is a new approach to dance that teaches dancers how to dance from their authentic person and develop their own artistic voice through self-discovery.
Pronounced now, NAO comes from the Chinese word Tao which is “the way of life.” Ancient Chinese considered Tao as the highest, omnipresence order of the universe and a life following Tao implies a life with the highest fulfillment. NAO borrows from the idea of Tao and is a dance technique designed to facilitate dancers in reaching their highest artistic fulfillment.
Developed by Linda Eve Elchak the NAO Dance Technique is a bold and intuitive technique with a strong base of technical training. Dancers learn to make their movements believable by answering the "why" questions and by allowing themselves to be vulnerable, receptive and open. In the NAO Technique dancers learn how not to dance from their ego, or conscious mind, but rather from their authentic person. Dancers explore honest perspectives in the human condition—subtle, intense, pivotal and vulnerable moments—through structured improvisational movement that inspires, enlightens and entertains. Over time, the NAO Technique teaches dancers to access their own body wisdom to ultimately access their potential and to dance longer and stronger throughout their career.
Elchak is the founder and artistic director of Nao Dance Collective, Central Florida’s Premier Structured improvisational Dance Company. Based in Orlando, Nao Dance Collective travels to surrounding areas to bring art to communities that would normally not have access to it. Nao Dance Collective made its debut performance in 2008 with an improvisational production of Alice Takes Wonderland and has been featured on the Orlando Home and Leisure Magazine, local and national television and has performed all over the United States.
Elchak is a passionate mother, dancer, choreographer, and educator, trained with teachers from the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, the Mark Morris Dance Group, the American Ballet Theatre, the New York City Ballet, The International Ballet of Cuba, the Denishawn School, and Isadora Duncan Dance.
