Upper Volta presidential election, 1978

The first round of the 1978 Upper Volta presidential election took place on May 14, 1978.

#Sangoulé Lamizana (supported by RDA) approx. 425 000 votes
#Macaire Ouédraogo (UNDD) approx. 250 000 votes
#Joseph Ouédraogo (Rejectors Front-RDA)
#Joseph Ki-Zerbo (UPV)Abstention: approx. 65%

The second round between Lamizana and Ouédraogo took place on May 28, 1978. Lamizana was elected with 711,722 votes (56.2%) to Ouédraogo's 552,956 votes (43.8%).
