Mustafa al-Shihabi

Mustafa al-Shihabi

Prince Mustafa Shahabi (Arabic: الأمير مصطفى الشهابي‎) was a Syrian agronomist, politician, writer and the third elected director of Arab Academy of Damascus (1959–1968).

After getting his degree in agriculture from France, he has been promoted during his professional life to the rank of Governor of Aleppo then Lattakia, Ambassador of Syria in Egypt, and Minister of many portfolios; Agriculture, Education and Finance, separately.

He paid big efforts for Arabization and modernizing Arabic language by writing many comprehensive modern term-indices of science and technology in Arabic language. He also has many writings regarding Arab nationalism and struggle against colonialism.

"Prince" title was only of a social background, with no real principality under his control.
