Murgihatta

Murgihatta is a small densely populated area in the heart of Kalimpong town in Darjeeling district, West Bengal, India. 67% of the area is in Ward 11 of the Kalimpong municipality. The remaining is in Dungra gram panchayat under Kalimpong development block. Murgihatta is mostly populated by the Gurkha community. The Tamang families are recorded as the oldest family here. Houses are available on a rental basis and most of them are rented by small business communities, mostly consisting of Hindu and Muslim Bihari or hawkers from Bihar state. The oldest building is Lhasha Villa which was constructed in 1953.
