Mundelein Elementary School District 75 is an elementary school district based entirely in the western Lake County village of Mundelein, Illinois. The district educates students in its region of suburban Chicago. Mundelein Elementary School District 75 is composed of three schools: one early learning center, one elementary school, and one is a middle school. All schools are located in the village of Mundelein.[1] Students in the district attend Washington Elementary School, which serves prekindergarteners, kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders under principal Mary Beth Licke.[2] Students then proceed to Mechanics Grove Elementary School, which serves grades three through five. The principal of the school is, respectively, Dr. Kathleen Miller (former principal of Lincoln Elementary School). [2] Mechanics Grove then feeds into Carl Sandburg Middle School, which serves grades six through eight under principal Mark Pilut.[2] The district superintendent is Dr. Cynthia Heidorn.[2]
Lincoln Elementary School
It was the first public school to open in the Mundelein area back in 1894. It composed to 2 classrooms originally. Then in 1937, a Gymnasium/cafeteria was added to the school. Then because of higher enrollment, in the 1950's, an entire new floor of classrooms was added the school. Plus a library, office, etc. Then it closed in 1979. It was closed for many years until the 1996-1997 school year when Lincoln School was reopened. They also added a multi- purpose room to the school. It was the first school in the area and the only school in the district to run on an all year round schedule until the 2006-2007 school year. The school opened again because of increasing enrollment in the district. The school hosted the grades K-5 until the 2006-2007 school year. In the 2006-2007 school year lots of changes occurred. The school had no more all year round schedule, and the grades Kindergarten, and first moved to Washington School. Plus, they shared the same bus and had the exact same school time as the Mechanics Grove Students. Then on February 16, 2011, school district 75 announced that it would close Lincoln School once again. The district had declining enrollment, and a huge budget deficit. The last year the school operated was the 2010-2011 school year. The students in 3-5 along with the teachers moved to Mechanics Grove School. And the 2nd graders and teachers moved to Washington School for the 2011-2012 school year.
